Abstract

With a relying on the original texts of Plato and Heraclitus, from their facing to each other the paper discovers an onto-epistemological connection of their philosophical standpoint. If to follow that what is general i.e. common (ξυνῷ) means to follow that what is rational (ξὺν νόῳ) and logos (λόγος) which is general/common, as was emphasized by Heraclitus in several fragments, then Plato showed respect to Heraclitus in his seventh book of The Republic. In this context the paper should point out an impact which Heraclitus put on the Plato’s epistemology and it opens the question of beginning of epistemological thought without a pretension to answer it completely. This query is supported in the fragment DK22 B41 by Heraclitus’ phrase ἐπίστασθαι γνώμην which author interprets as to perceive a term and therefore comprehends the Plato’s theory of ideas pre-socratically.
