Abstract
Th e author attempts to identify Heidegger’s starting point in philosophy.Th e paper shows why Heidegger had to turn to Aristotle in his understanding ofphronesis. Th e insights he gained served to develop a phenomenology of life as a pretheoreticalstarting point from which the theoretical can ultimately take direction.He thus arrived at a “hermeneutics of facticity” that attempts to off er a propositionaldescription of life through his own living motion.
