Abstract

Adorno’s concepts of art and cultural industry will be discussed with regard to their role in the social totality. In the first chapter, the author analyzes Adorno’s approach to cultural phenomena and his criticism of the concept of culture as a unified whole. Then, the author draws attention to Adorno’s thesis on modern art as a place of negation of the social totality. Below is an analysis of Adorno’s definition of cultural industry as a pseudo-culture and pseudo-art. Finally, the author draws attention to the potential socially progressive implications in concept of cultural industry.
